Infosys leads 5 Indian projects shortlisted for Green Oscars!
Till the arrival of the IT companies in a big way Tamilnadu could manage with 8000 MW a day power production and consumption. Today we require around 13000 MW a-day .
IT Companies talk of green buildings. Very strange indeed!
Green paddy fields are converted to Himalayan sized concrete towers. Millions of square feet of standing structures dot the Chennai city and of course all major cities in India. After destroying green paddy fields they call it as 'IT park'. 10-15% of the area may be having some artificial landscaping and fountains. Each floor will have pots of flowers or creepers. The modern technology says ' Keep a window' but never open it or Don't have any windows at all." Are we not having MS Windows? Even the entry doors are kept closed always.
Thus the natural air is blocked in any new building without any exception. Naturally the structures require lighting, cooling devices, escalators or elevators, power for every system, power for pumping water to taps and so on. Earlier we used to work between only 9-5 p.m. Today 24X365 non stop shifts. At this juncture headlines as we read above are very amusing.
I wonder why these systems can't work in normal temperature.
And another Green method these companies follow are transporting millions of employees from their homes to the work spots. On an average every Indian IT employee moves around 20 kms a day. I don't understand if the works of the western nations can be done in India why not the same from the employees' homes? Again all these buses are air conditioned ones.
Instead of erecting shining glass buildings of millions of square meters and filling them with electrical fittings these new age IT companies have to come out with alternatives to reduce the usage of power.
